My Husband: Tom K.

Okay — how would you describe yourself?

I’m a lawyer, and I help at Hilltown Commons, too. I live in Rensselaerville, and I’m originally from Des Moines, Iowa.

How did you get to Rensselaerville?

I used to own a house in Oak Hill with a friend of mine. And through a series of events, my wife and I — you and I — decided to buy a place in Rensselaerville. We were looking for a house during COVID, and the one we now live in came on the market, and so we somehow decided to buy it. We really did not know what we were getting into or have a real plan.

What do you like to do for fun?

I have a lot of hobbies that I can pick up and put down with varying degrees of success and completion. It's spring, so now I’m into planting flowers and starting seeds in the basement. I started a lot of dahlias this year, and some basil and tomatoes.

What’s a good meal you've had around here recently?

The best meal I can remember were the venison backstraps from the deer I harvested last fall. Also the pambazos at Alma's, the taco stand in Germantown across from Palatine Park. Those were great. Out of this world.

Have you been anywhere cool recently?

Zoom Flume. It’s kind of a dark horse water park.

Is there something you’re looking forward to this year?

Going to Minnesota for my brother's wedding.

Anything else around here that like to recommend or mention in any way?

I had a really good experience at Dean’s Mill, on Rte. 145 in East Durham, across from the Milk Run. I went in looking to get a knife sharpened, and they couldn't do that, but I met the owner of the store and talked to him about chickens for a long time. That was good. I'd recommend anyone go there. They're really nice people. Good service.
